When Heather was young, she played a handful of team sports but focused mainly on basketball and Track and Field. In high school she was a successful pole vaulter and joined her college’s track team for a short time. During college, Heather competed in the sport of rock climbing, strength trained, and ran. While completing her graduate degree, Heather began to participate in more long-distance trail running races while continuing to strength train.

In terms of CrossFit, Heather started a jump rope team in elementary school, so she loves double unders! She is most excited to improve in the gymnastics component of CrossFit.

Advice for someone new to or thinking about starting CrossFit:

Don’t be afraid to suck! Learning a new skill takes time. Lean into and embrace the challenge! Celebrate your improvements along the way, try something new, and have fun!

What do you like best about State College Strength & Conditioning?

Hands down, all of the gym dogs. The great community is a close second.

When I’m not CrossFit-ting, I’m:

Getting lost in the woods, hanging out with my dog, and teaching people how to ski and snowboard.

What is your favorite quote or mantra?

Don’t sweat the petty things and don’t pet the sweaty things.
